On Saturday the 29th of October 2005 His Eminence Metropolitan Julius Jesuh’ Çiçek passed away. He was appointed as the Metropolitan of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch in Middle Europe ince 1979. His demise happened while he was on his way from his residence the Monastery of Mor Ephrem the Syrian in the Netherlands to a conference in Switzerland.
His Eminence was consecrated as the first Metropolitan of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Middle Europe. Under his supervision as a Metropolitan about 51 churches and 3 monasteries were built and established in Europe. Since his youth he has had developed much love for Syriac literature. At his headquarters in Losser he had edited and published more then 120 books mainly in Aramaic language. Some of them were by his written hand.
The funeral will take place in the Mausoleum of the Holy Mother Mary church in Losser at the 5th of November 2005. More then ten thousand members of the Syriac Orthodox community from all over are expected to be gathered to pay him the last farewell.
