Our people were subject, for many reason, and since more than one thousand years, to a series of tortures and persecutions due to their ethnicity, culture, and religion.
The second half of nineteenth and the first decades if the twentieth centuries witnessed mass campaigns of genocide, the result of which were killing of more than half their population because of their difference in ethnicity and religion from the inhabitant of the area.
Further more, our people, the Assyrians, witnessed at the hands of the former Iraqi Regime, crimes of genocide, displacement, and destruction f our ancestral villages that were aimed to eradicate our culture, identity and existence that forced more than half of our people to flee the area and live in Diaspora and exile.
With the beginning of this century and with the liberation of Iraq through the help of the coalition forces we looked forward to live in peace, integrity, and respect in a state that would guarantee justice, equality among its citizens and will assure their national and cultural rights without discrimination because of national, social, and religious origin.
?Although we believe in the newly established Iraqi Government, which is still in its first stages, we see the holders of the racist ideologies, and rejecters of the others, among the organizations that professes and exercises the political Islam and Pro-Arabism policies aimed at the lives, the way of living and properties of the sons and daughters of our people. The crime news against our people in Iraq is coming every day from various sources from the media to political and religious organization communications.
The Assyrian people, who are the indigenous people of Iraq, are looking forward to you to help the Iraqi Government stop the terrorism exercised by forces of darkness against our people in Iraq.
Dear Sirs,
The human rights charters guarantee any human being his/her basic rights, integrity, and protection because of national identity, belief, language and sex. How can that be achieved in a diverse country such as Iraq? How can that be accomplished in the turmoil that is ravaging a county that is seeking to be unified?
The heritage, language, identity of any people is part of the heritage and identity of mankind as a whole.
It is the duty of human societies and its organizations, official and otherwise, to protect the peculiarity, national and cultural identity of minorities from terror, torture, and eradication.? The Assyrian people are one of those societies that need to be protected.
