Iraqi MP Calls for International Investigation of Christian Killings in Mosul

Baghdad – AINA — Iraqi MP Yonadam Kanna called on Sunday for an international investigation of the recent targeted killings in Mosul against the Assyrian minority.

According to Newsmatique, Kanna said “If the Iraqi security service is unable to disclose which group pushed these terrorists to force the Christians out of Mosul, we will then ask for an international investigation to find out the truth”.

Kanna, who is Assyrian, said that 90% of the attacks occurred in an area which is under the control of the second army unit in Mosul, which is composed entirely of Kurds. Kanna also confirmed that 10 individuals have been arrested so far and linked to the attacks on the Assyrians in Mosul. He refused to accuse any group but added he believes the individuals who have done this were implementing a “special agenda”.

He Kanna also called on the Iraqi state to compensate the affected families. The Iraqi parliament will convene on Tuesday to investigate the violent events in Mosul during the past weeks.
