Iraqi President Jalal Talabani has created a special state committee for Christians. It is designed to monitor the situation of Iraqi Christians and to assist in solving their problems.
The President also ordered the heightening of protection for Christian churches and areas where Christians live in large numbers.
Earlier, Mr Talabani proposed the creation of a Christian province in Iraq, citing the fact that in some regions the followers of this religion are the majority.
Since March 2003, more than 2,000 Christians have been killed in Iraq with over 500,000 losing their property.
