Assyrians Demonstrate in Stockholm Against Christian Ethnic Cleansing in Iraq





     

Stockholm- AINA — The Assyrian (also known as Chaldean and Syriac) community held a demonstration in Stockholm on Wednesday to draw attention to the plight of Assyrians in Iraq, who are, according to some reports, undergoing ethnic cleansing1.

A large group of of demonstrators equipped with banners filled the streets of Stockholm, demanding protection for the Christians of Iraq.

Several members of the Swedish parliament called on the world community to act for the protection of the Christian Assyrians, who are being targeted by Islamists in war torn Iraq. Kalle Larsson from the Swedish left oriented party VEnsterpartiet said that Assyrians have the right to form their own autonomous region in Iraq.

Assyrians from many different organizations participated in the demonstration. Also participating were representatives of all the Assyrian church denominations.
