Assad’s Security and Intelligence Agents Attack the Assyrian Democratic Organization’s Headquarters in Qamishly

08-January-2012

Dozens of people known to be Assad’s security and intelligence agents attacked the Assyrian Democratic Organization’s (ADO) headquarters in the Al-Wusta neighborhood of Qamishly, where they wrote phrases and obscenities on the walls, as well as shouting vulgarities and slogans condemning the ADO and its demands for Democracy and Freedom for the Syrian people. After these individuals did not receive any support from Assyrians in the neighborhood, they were forced to retreat.

It is worth noting, that this is not the first time where the ADO’s headquarters was attacked. It had previously been attacked by the government’s security forces, where they confiscated all of its contents, including computers and furniture, and wrote slogans on the walls in support of Assad.

The ADO had chosen to participate in the peaceful demonstrations and the Syrian Revolution since its beginning, despite the reluctance of some Christians in Qamishly. The ADO is also a member of the Syrian National Council, one of the most prominent Syrian opposition coalitions.
