Mardin governor said that restoration of two monasteries and four churches in the city had been concluded within the scope of urban transformation project.

Hasan Duruer, governor of southeastern province of Mardin, said on Tuesday that restoration of two monasteries and four churches in the city had been concluded within the scope of urban transformation project.

Speaking to A.A correspondent, Duruer said there were monasteries and churches belonging to Assyrian communities in the "Turabdin" region between Midyat and Mardin.

Duruer said monasteries and churches were never closed to worship.

"We are living together with the Assyrians in peace for years. Restoration of two monasteries and four churches has been concluded. When other restoration works end, Mardin will be able compete with many cities of the world," he said.

Duruer said they have initiated a very serious work to improve Mardin extending from tourism to agriculture and from economy to arts.

"Mardin, the favorite tourism center of the region in the recent years, targets to host five million tourists in the next five years. We expect entrepreneurs to invest in Mardin. Every kind of facility will be provided to the investors," Duruer said.
